Behind every great champagne is its own unique and colourful history; in the case of Champagne Pol Roger, it began months after the liberation of Paris (also referred to as “Battle of Paris”), during World War Two, when the luxurious 1928 vintage was served at a luncheon hosted by the British Ambassador in a gift to France. Instantly lauded by all the diners, this moment would be the start of a strong and long-lasting connection between the Pol-Roger and Churchill families.
In attendance that day, along with British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, was none other than the stunning Odette Pol-Roger, and so a lasting friendship was born – one that would stand the test of time, forming a network of connections that remain strong to this day. Many notable meetings can be named, none less famous than when the Prime Minister's favourite race horse “Pol Roger” reigned victorious at the Black Prince Stakes at Kempton Park. Throughout history, much has been made of the fact that this very day marked the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
