Sensory profile
The colour of this cuvée is a luminous pale yellow, with a remarkably fine effervescence. The nose begins with discreet, refined notes of lemongrass, honeysuckle and bergamot, followed by grapefruit zest and a mineral spray reminiscent of damp chalk. On the palate, the attack is precise and chiselled, with a texture combining saline tension and creamy satin. It gradually evolves towards a marked salivation and a long, mineral, chalky finish.
Use & context
This exceptional cuvée is aimed at demanding connoisseurs, such as collectors or gourmets looking for a wine that can be enjoyed over several years. It is particularly suited to well-considered tastings, either on its own or as an accompaniment to fine food. Its ageing potential makes it a good choice for cellaring.
Why choose this cuvée?
Since 1864, Alfred Gratien has been perpetuating its traditional know-how, characterised by vinification entirely in wood, a rare choice in the Champagne region. Cuvée Paradis 2016 embodies this technical singularity, combining a precious terroir, careful ageing and limited blending. The result is a deep structure, a balance between freshness and tension, and excellent ageing potential.
Storage and serving
Store the bottle in a cellar at a constant temperature (ideally between 10°C and 14°C), away from light and temperature variations. Before serving, open the bottle and leave to stand for a few minutes to allow the effervescence to develop under the right conditions. Use a wide flute or a Burgundy-style wine glass to better appreciate the aromas. Serve between 10°C and 12°C.
