According to the latest industry information only just made recently public, despite consumers paying less for Lauren-Perrier's much sought-after champagne brands, due to demand outside of France, the first six months of the fiscal year has seen a notable increase in sales. Predicting a new “growth period” as a result of the figures – according to Laurent-Perrier, the six months leading up to the end of September saw a 23% increase in net sales – president Michael Boulaire's recent comments indicate the wide-spread belief that champagne, like many products, is set to soon free itself of the grips of the recession.
Exciting though this is, it does not, of course, do much to lessen negative speculation regarding the pricing of champagne – something that has also been highlighted by a rise in operating profits and, of course, an ingrained distrust in the financial market in general that has proven difficult to shake off.
