Description
A Blanc de Noirs from the great terroirs of Champagne
The Philipponnat Blanc de Noirs Extra-Brut 2019 is made from the first pressing of grapes sourced from the Montagne de Reims, as well as the vineyards of Mareuil-sur-Ay and Avenay.
The blend is composed of 100% Pinot Noir. A significant proportion of the wines, vinified in oak and in tanks, do not undergo malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the vintage’s freshness, tension and character.
Its Extra-Brut dosage of 4.25 g/l respects the purity of the fruit whilst maintaining a precise balance between the vinous structure of the Pinot Noir and the cuvée’s characteristic freshness.
Extended ageing on lees
The 2019 Blanc de Noirs is aged on lees for between five and seven years. This extended ageing contributes to the development of its aromatic complexity and encourages the emergence of secondary and tertiary notes.
The result is a deep and expressive champagne, with a full-bodied texture and a fresh, elegant and lingering finish.
Tasting notes for the Philipponnat Blanc de Noirs 2019
Appearance
The colour is an intense gold, with subtle pink highlights characteristic of Pinot Noir.
On the nose
The initial nose reveals floral notes of violet and acacia blossom. With aeration, the bouquet becomes more expressive, with aromas of apricot, strawberry and morello cherry.
On the palate
The attack is full-bodied and rich, characterised by flavours of wild berries. The finish retains a lovely freshness, accompanied by hints of spice, aniseed and liquorice.
Food pairings
Thanks to its vinous character and structure, the Philipponnat Blanc de Noirs Extra-Brut 2019 Champagne can accompany an entire meal.
It pairs particularly well with:
- a chicken tagine with apricots and almonds;
- a poultry or game terrine;
- foie gras;
- delicately spiced dishes;
- roasted white meats.
