The Champagne region is a unique place in the world, renowned for its sparkling wines. This distinct region produces an incredible variety of styles, thanks to steep slopes and complex geological features that create distinct terroirs. From light and crisp white wines to full-bodied and rich rosés, Champagne offers something for everyone's palate. Let's explore the different terroirs and discover what makes each one so special.
Champagne Montagne de Reims
Champagne Montagne de Reims is located at the northern end of the region and is home to some of its oldest vineyards. Its steep slopes are among the highest in France and are composed mainly of limestone soils. These cooler climate sites produce wines with intense aromas, elegant structure and vibrant acidity - perfect for creating elegant sparkling wines with great aging potential. The most notable sub-regions are Verzenay, Bouzy, Ambonnay and Aÿ, the latter known for some of the most prized Grand Cru vineyards in the world.
