Description

Champagne Crucifix Épitre Act 20

The Champagne Blanc de Noirs Extra-Brut Épitre Act 20 from Maison Crucifix Père & Fils is part of a single-vineyard, single-vintage approach, faithful to the wine-growing identity of the Montagne de Reims. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes grown in Avenay-Val-d'Or Premier Cru, this Champagne wine reflects a precise interpretation of the terroir and the 2020 vintage.

This cuvée is made from vines over 35 years old, planted on the clay-limestone soils characteristic of the area. The work carried out in the vineyard and in the cellar aims to preserve the natural expression of the grapes, without artifice, with a focus on precision and consistent quality.

A Premier Cru terroir in the Montagne de Reims

The Premier Cru Avenay-Val-d'Or Champagne enjoys a privileged location in the south of the Montagne de Reims. The clay-limestone soils promote regular water supply to the vines and contribute to the structure of the wines made from Pinot Noir. This geological context gives the Champagne Pinot Noir Montagne de Reims cuvée a strong structure and the ability to evolve over time.

Crucifix Père & Fils is committed to Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC) certified viticulture, guaranteeing sustainable vineyard management and respect for the natural balance.

Controlled vinification and ageing

The Épitre Act 20 Extra-Brut vintage Champagne is vinified using only the heart of the cuvée. Alcoholic fermentation and ageing take place in Champagne oak barrels of various sizes (205, 300 and 600 litres), with moderate toasting and regular stirring. No fining is carried out in order to preserve the integrity of the wine.

Ageing on lees is prolonged, with a minimum of 72 months in the bottle. After disgorging, an additional resting period of several months is observed before release. Dosage is limited to 3.5 g/l, placing this cuvée in the Extra-Brut Champagne category.

Tasting profile

To the eye, the colour is a deep golden hue, enlivened by a fine and regular effervescence. The nose reveals a structured aromatic palette, marked by notes of ripe fruit, citrus and nuances from ageing in wood.

On the palate, the attack is direct, carried by a full-bodied texture and an assertive vinous structure. The balance is based on the precision of the dosage and the maturity of the grapes, offering a clear expression of Pinot Noir and the Premier Cru terroir. The finish is long and consistent.

Ageing potential and storage

Champagne Épitre Act 20 can be enjoyed now, but it also has an estimated storage potential of between 5 and 15 years, depending on storage conditions. Storage in a cellar at a constant temperature will allow the wine to develop more complex expressions while retaining its structure.
