Presentation of the cuvée
The 2016 vintage louis roederer champagne is in the tradition of Louis Roederer's "Vintage" cuvées, offering an expression resolutely oriented towards controlled power and finesse. Produced from an exceptional harvest, this vintage fully reflects the House's identity on its "La Montagne" terroirs in the Montagne de Reims.
Origin and production
The composition of this cuvée is characterised by a large proportion of Pinot Noir - around 68% to 70% - and a complement of Chardonnay of around 30% to 32%. The dosage is set at 7 g/L, guaranteeing a balance between aromatic concentration and freshness.
The grapes come mainly from the Grand Cru vineyards of the Maison Louis Roederer, cultivated according to a vigorous approach based on parcel-by-parcel monitoring. Some of the wines are vinified in oak barrels (approx. 33%) and a small proportion (5%) undergo malolactic fermentation. Ageing: The wine is aged for a minimum of 4 years on laths, with a further period after disgorgement to reach optimum maturity.
Sensory profile
Louis Roederer Millésime 2016 has a brilliant gold colour, with fine, dynamic bubbles. The nose opens with aromas of ripe fruit - apple, pear, nectarine - accompanied by hints of grilled hazelnut, candied citrus fruit and a subtle limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is generous, structured by the dominance of Pinot Noir, but always balanced by a flowing freshness and a notable saline tension. The texture is silky, evolving towards a long, taut finish with hints of ginger, orange zest and wet stone.
Serving suggestions
This "Vintage" is suitable for a well-informed connoisseur looking for a benchmark champagne to be enjoyed or kept for several years. To fully appreciate its complexity, it should be served at a temperature of between 10°C and 12°C, to release its full palette. When it comes to food and champagne pairings, this cuvée goes well with fine fish, white meats and gourmet dishes with a subtle, refined texture.
Why choose this cuvée?
- Louis Roederer, an independent family business founded in 1776, is fully committed to viticulture and winemaking.
- A blend dominated by the Pinot Noir of "La Montagne", which confers a structure and density rare among vintage champagnes.
- A 2016 vintage renowned for its maturity, aromatic richness and potential to develop over several years.
- Particular care is taken in the production process (fermentation, ageing, moderate dosage) to ensure precision and longevity.
Storage recommendations
Store this champagne in a cool place, away from light and vibrations, ideally at a constant temperature of around 12°C. Open the bottle a few minutes before serving to allow the aromas to fully develop. It may be laid down for 8 to 15 years, depending on the conditions, allowing the cuvée to develop more complex notes.
