Every house needs a champagne that stands alone as its unofficial symbol. In the case of Henri Giraud, it is the ravishing Esprit de Giraud – a wine which has undergone 'thermo regulated vinification' in stainless-steel vats for a full year on the lees (without racking). Discreet up until the attack, Pinot is the star, here, in this blend made from Grand Cry vineyard grapes.
People find they look twice at the Henri Giraud Esprit de Giraud, and it's all to do with its appearance: one which overpowers the eyes with gold and blonde highlights – the mark of mature Pinot Noir wines. Then they tend to marvel at the fine bubbles and foam, and all before they experience the nose...
Stone fruit, vanilla and spices – including white pepper – quickly gather on a background of preserved lemon, building up to a welcome freshness. It doesn't take long before straw mushroom in wood, as well as marshmallow, almond and cherry arrives. Once on the palate, be impressed by its fresh attack. All of this in a wine where the dosage is barely noticeable.
In the finale, the Henri Giraud Esprit de Giraud doesn't disappoint. The structure is further enhanced by light tannins and mineral, and the finish is luxuriantly long and winey with silky aromas of bitter almonds & biscuit.
