Three prestigious vineyards make De Sousa & Fils Cuvee 3A what it is: expect the best from Ambonnay, Ay and of course, Avize.
Avize is responsible for the Chardonnay, which accounts for 50% of the blend. A village which embodies everything about the infamous Cote des Blancs region of France, the grapes are grown from pure chalk. With the vines being in excess of 50 years old, the scene is set for excellence, and finished off with vinification in 225 litre oak barrels.
The other half is made up by Pinot Noir. Ay, home of the Pinot, is situated directly between the Valley of Marne and Montagne de Reims. Vines here are similarly regarded, and offer up ripe aromas of delicious fruit. Lastly, Ambonnay ties it all together by adding maturity and fruit concentration to the blend. The village may produce less yields, but this is more than made up for with a spectacular reputation.
Once poured, set your eyes upon a clear golden, copper highlighted wine. Thick and greasy, this bodes well and tells of a flattering nose which consists of lemon, mango and even pineapple. Hints of butter from its ageing in oak barrels are also apparent, along with notes of red fruits.
In the mouth, the presence of Pinot Black produces a vinous nose that is brought to life by smooth and creamy aromas, backed up by the dependable finesse and minerality that are the hall-marks of Chardonnay.
