For years, lovers of champagne the world over have celebrated its unique characteristics with a wide variety of foods, and all would undoubtedly agree that in order to preserve its flavour – and indeed the mood of the occasion – choosing the suitable dessert is vital. Not quite sure of what dessert to pick to accompany that stunning meal? Here are a few ideas which should point you in the right direction:
Fruit Puddings: since day one, fruit has proved to be popular in many forms, most notably in the form of the rice or plum pudding, though many other combinations work just as well. The rule here is simple enough – the sweeter the pudding in question, the sweeter the champagne should be to match it.
Tarts, Crumbles and naturally, Strawberries: for romantic occasions, strawberries have long since been considered the favourite (most suited to the sweetest bottles, such as the Italian great Asti Spumanti); alternatively, for a family event why not go for a pear crumble or classic apple tart?
Shortbread: the lightness of this is sure to always prove popular, as will cookies, particularly when infused with almonds.
